Kagamine Rin (鏡音リン) & Kagamine Len (鏡音レン) are the second products of the Vocaloid Character Vocal Series, released on December 27, 2007. The developer says that their family name was from the Japanese words Kagami (鏡, mirror) and Ne (音, sound), i.e., they are the mirror reflections meaning Rin “right” and Len “left”, with the first syllables of their given names a pun on “Left” and “Right”. The seiyū -voice actress- Shimoda Asami (下田 麻美) provided the voice for the characters, and according to her, Len's voice was achieved by singing within her chest, while Rin's at the top of her head. Rin is 152cm tall and weighs 43kg, she usually is very cheerful and hyper, her personality is the opposite of Len's. Len is 156cm tall and weighs 47kg. Both of them are 14yrs old.

A fejlesztő szerint családnevük a Kagami (鏡, tükör) és Ne (音, hang) japán szavakból ered, keresztneveik első szótagjai pedig szójátékok a jobb és bal szavakkal, azaz míg Rin a "jobb", addig Len a "bal", így egymás tükörképei. A seiyū -szinkronszínésznő- Shimoda Asami (下田 麻美) szolgáltatta a vocaloidok hangját, aki Len hangját tüdőből való énekléssel, míg Rinét fejhangok segítségével érte el. Rin 152cm magas és 43kg, általában vidám és igen aktív, személyisége teljes ellentéte Lenének, aki pedig 156cm magas és 47kg. Mindketten 14 évesek.
